Astaxanthin for Endurance Enhancement
Astaxanthin has been shown to help maintain muscle mass and improve recovery from strenuous exercise in endurance athletes. In the Swedish study the results showed a 2.5 times increase in strength and endurance. The one thing everyone produces when they exercise is lactic acid. It appears in the blood due to the body’s inability to deliver oxygen to the tissues as a result of metabolic demands, i.e. exercise. Astaxanthin has been shown to improve recovery from strenuous exercise. In a Japanese study it was shown that athletes with a daily astaxanthin protocol reduced lactic acid buildup by nearly 29%.

Before knowing why and how, it is first important to know at least a little about what astaxanthin is. astaxanthin is a natural substance; it is a carotenoid. It is not something that scientist have invented so you have less worries about its risks to your health.
The reason why you could actually take astaxanthin for endurance enhancement is that when you engage in a strenuous physical activity, the astaxanthin you took would let your body use more of your lipids (fats) to use for its movement instead of the energy stored in your muscles. Since your muscles have more energy stored to them, your body could still work for a longer duration that it would have if you have taken in no astaxanthin.
Also, this has been further supported by research done in Japan, namely in universities such as University of Hyogo, Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, University of Shizuoka, and University of Nagoya report that. Their studies have been conducted using mice as the subject for testing the difference in muscle endurance of those that have taken astaxanthin and those that haven’t. This study has been replicated in Sweden by having two sets of people for the tests, those that took real astaxanthin, and those that have taken placebo. The conclusion further supported the use of astaxanthin for endurance enhancement.
