Astaxanthin for Endurance Enhancement
Astaxanthin has been shown to help maintain muscle mass and improve recovery from strenuous exercise in endurance athletes. In the Swedish study the results showed a 2.5 times increase in strength and endurance. The one thing everyone produces when they exercise is lactic acid. It appears in the blood due to the body’s inability to deliver oxygen to the tissues as a result of metabolic demands, i.e. exercise. Astaxanthin has been shown to improve recovery from strenuous exercise. In a Japanese study it was shown that athletes with a daily astaxanthin protocol reduced lactic acid buildup by nearly 29%.
In order to further increase the strength of the body, one must consider improving not just one, but several factors that could all contribute into this aspect of bodily functioning. When one’s goal is to increase the strength of ones muscles without creating unwanted bulk in his muscles, one may resort into neuromuscular training where we tirelessly repeats a certain motion again and again thus making the involved muscle groups stronger for that particular movement. We may also try to do workouts with low repetitions but are done in high speeds. On the other hand, one may simply want to get rid of fat deposits in his body, particularly around our waist and stomach. If this is the case, we may just simply do long hours of intensive high-speed cardiovascular exercises so we could get rid of the fat. Or one may simply want to participate on the sport of weight lifting, so we must continuously train ourselves to carry heavy weights.
No matter how all of these exercises are actually done, whatever their effects on one’s body would be, whatever the reason anybody has for any of those, and no matter how different each of those exercises are, there is always this one factor that all of those who aim to exercise must always take care of improving first: endurance.
No matter how many times and how fast you want to do a certain movement, no matter how long and how fast you would want to run around an oval, and no matter how heavy those tons of iron that you want to lift, you wouldn’t be able to get better on any of those if you have a very low level of muscular endurance.
So how then would you be able to improve your muscular endurance? Aside from attempting to slowly increase the sets of your exercise, there is another way that you can further improve on this aspect; taking astaxanthin for endurance improvement. The subjects in the astaxanthin protocol “showed a significant increase in swimming time to exhaustion” as compared to the control group. Further the study found that the blood lactate concentration was significantly lower than in the control.
Why take astaxanthin for endurance improvement and how does it work on one’s body?
Before knowing why and how, it is first important to know at least a little about what astaxanthin is. astaxanthin is a natural substance; it is a carotenoid. It is not something that scientist have invented so you have less worries about its risks to your health.
The reason why you could actually take astaxanthin for endurance enhancement is that when you engage in a strenuous physical activity, the astaxanthin you took would let your body use more of your lipids (fats) to use for its movement instead of the energy stored in your muscles. Since your muscles have more energy stored to them, your body could still work for a longer duration that it would have if you have taken in no astaxanthin.
Also, this has been further supported by research done in Japan, namely in universities such as University of Hyogo, Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine, University of Shizuoka, and University of Nagoya report that. Their studies have been conducted using mice as the subject for testing the difference in muscle endurance of those that have taken astaxanthin and those that haven’t. This study has been replicated in Sweden by having two sets of people for the tests, those that took real astaxanthin, and those that have taken placebo. The conclusion further supported the use of astaxanthin for endurance enhancement.
